Latex is a natural substance extracted from the Hevea Brasiliensis plant, through the incision of the bark and the collection of the resulting milk. The latex foam industry has only begun to evolve in the last 70 years, although the Maya had already perceived the enormous potential of this substance for its elastic and resistant properties. The use of latex ranges in many fields of common use, from articles for children to those for the home and in recent years has found ample space in the creation of mattresses, looking for valid alternatives. The latex foam is a material that derives from the vulcanization of "latex milk", a whitish and milky liquid composed of a dispersion of very fine rubber particles in water. The whole processing cycle is completely ecological, as it is based exclusively on the use of substances such as air and water. During production the natural latex, subject to variations in the collection and production from one year to the next, is mixed with the synthetic latex, certainly more stable and resistant than its natural equivalent. Thanks to the mechanical mixing and the addition of air, the two components are transformed into foam. A fundamental role in the production of the material is played by the quantity of air introduced during production, so that the final density determines the resilience of the product. The type of latex and its origin do not influence in any way the characteristics of use of the finished product , at least according to medical-physiological criteria. Currently the methods used for the production of the mold latex are the TOP QUALITY method. In latex milk it is made foam mechanically with the addition of latex and air, considering that more will be the injection less final air will be the final product. The foam is then passed into the molds where the solidification immediately followed by the vulcanization takes place, which allows the formation of a material with open cells. The latex used for the inside of the mattresses, moreover, is able, according to numerous researches, to overcome some increasingly common allergy problems. It is estimated that in Europe, people who find themselves allergic to mites are almost 5% of the population and that most of them orientate their choice towards latex mattresses. In fact it is not the material itself that makes mites escape, but its aeration properties, the products formed by this material, whether they are pillows or mattresses, do not present excessive humidity as it is easily disposed of and therefore there are no favorable situations for the settlement of these parasites. Recent American studies show that the latex products are three times more resistant to the installation of mites than other commonly used materials, and that this material does not constitute a favorable habitat for the development and reproduction of bacteria, fungi or molds.The great elasticity of foam mattresses latex milk, or its ability to oppose increasing resistance to a growing load by reacquiring the for but it is the original position as soon as possible when the load ceases to burden.
